Stellar Complex in Ahmedabad radiates beauty and glamour with its one of a kind appearance. A rectilinear composition creating office spaces opening into landscaped terraces along an arterial city road, Stellar is a commercial building with retail spaces at the lower three levels and offices at the upper four levels.

The Design Philosophy
The 110-meter long building is fragmented at the upper floors with North-facing terraces and is punctuated by a large 2 level angular office space on the North-West corner. Designed in conformation with a very specific brief, retail spaces occupy the lower levels along the extensive road frontage. Small offices constitute the upper levels with 30% of the offices opening into landscaped terraces.
The entrance to the retail levels is from the road frontage on the Northern side. The entrance to the office spaces by separate circulation cores is on the Southern side. Besides, parking spaces are provided for in two separate basements. The entrances are thus completely segregated for the retail levels and the office levels. Naturally ventilated corridors connect the retail spaces at the upper levels, creating indoor open streets that are parallel to the road frontage.
The Client’s Brief
The owner of the development wanted a clearly discernible office space of 500 sq meters. Angular folded planes create the mesmerizing office space that is set back from the road junction at the North-West corner, thus punctuating the rectilinear composition of the rest of the building.
The Aesthetics
The rust coloured ACP sheets were used for this angular office volume as the material will be able to withstand the high temperature and rainfall of Ahmedabad. The weight and thickness of the product were perfect for executing this unique structure. The simple rectilinear geometry with muted colour tones and the complex angular geometry has been very well complemented by the MT-5006 Brick shade from Aludecor’s Rustic Series of ACPs.

The office space is deliberately designed to contrast with the rest of the building, creating an exciting juxtaposition of colour, volume and geometry in addition to creating an individual identity based upon the brief.

The Sustainable Measures
Large openings towards the Northern side and the smaller recessed windows on the Southern side, reduce heat gain in response to the high temperatures of the location in Ahmedabad city in India. Temperatures in this city are more than 35°C for at least eight months annually. All the terraces are connected to a rainwater harvesting tank, and the collected water is recycled and reused.
The solar panels at the terrace harness the abundant solar energy that is available throughout the year. The Panels generate enough electricity to be used for general lighting of all spaces.
The resplendent Stellar Complex thus holds within itself, the unique office space and retail space building. It is very much a cohesive amalgamation which is contextual to the site’s location, climate and the client’s brief.
