Kolkata East-West Metro Chooses Aludecor ACP Sheets as one of the Building Materials

Kolkata Metro Line 2 finally got its flag off on 13^th February 2020. A 5 km stretch from Saltlake Sector V to Yuva Bharati Krirangan Stadium is operational now. Aludecor’s 4mm Aluminium Composite Panels have been used in the construction of the Sector V Metro Station of the East-West Metro.

The AD-06 Copper shade from Aludecor’s Regular series makes the newly inaugurated Metro Station turn heads.

Although, the rest of the stretch was kept on halt due to an aquifer burst in Bowbazar area last year, the work on the remaining stretch will resume soon. The East – West metro line will run 16.6km at a stretch between Sector V to Howrah Maidan, including an underwater tunnel running over the Hooghly River.

The extension of the Metro, will make it easier and faster for the commuters to travel from any corner of the city. However, on the completion of the metro lines, Esplanade will be the most important station and the busiest station with intersection of three corridors namely North-South, East-West and Joka -BBD Bag. The count of the crowd is expected to be nearly in lakhs. As a solution, RITES is planning a commuting dispersal system, including entrance and exit plans and an underground connectivity for mostly crowded places like Eden Gardens, Netaji indoor stadium, high court and major ferry ghats, etc.

After the “Majherhat Bridge” collapse in 2018, Metro lines are being overcrowded during peak hours. The suicide rate is also going up day by day creating a lot of hassle for the busy commuters during office hours. To stop such fatal deaths and suicide attempts, platform screen doors are being placed at the Karunamoyee Station of the East-West metro. These floor-to-ceiling sliding doors are manufactured by the Chinese consortium of Zhu Zhou CRRC Times Electric Co Ltd of Hunan and Panasonic Manufacturing (Beijing) Co Ltd. About 48 engineers, including engineers from china are working to install these sliding doors. These automatic sliding doors will open together with the metro doors. Specially, designed for crowds, these sliding doors will have sensors that will automatically reopen even if there is an obstacle within 6mm of the two slides.
