What is the difference between 4mm and 6mm ACP sheets?
The differentiation points between the 4mm and 6mm ACP sheets from Aludecor are centred around the thickness of their respective cores, with no variation in the thickness of the Aluminium skins. While the 4mm ACP sheets, widely available across ACP sheet manufacturers, excel mainly in exterior applications than interior, offering design flexibility and weatherproof performance. On the other hand, the 6mm ACP sheets provide superior exterior durability and structural stability that can be used extensively in bungalows, shopping malls and low-rise apartments. The choice hinges on specific project needs, with the former being a perfect weather shield for facades and the latter emphasizing bold resilience for any type of project.

The 4mm ACP panel has always been considered a benchmark when it comes to extrusion design, joint dimensions and testing. CNC cutting tools, in fact, are also programmed to cut through 4mm ACP panels very easily. Now for the 6mm ACP sheets, the weight of each ACP sheet is increased by ~30-40%, and thus it requires additional safety measures to be followed in the time of installation.
The advantage of 6mm ACP sheets resides within its extra thickness which offers added stiffness to the panels.
The ASTM C393 testing procedure confirms that the 6mm Aluminium composite Panels have added stiffness. Besides, the difference between 4mm and 6mm ACP sheets’ panel deflection for wind loads is within 10%. Whether it is a 4mm ACP panel or a 6mm ACP panel, it is always framed with stiffeners and continuos extrusions at the back. Thus, both 4mm and 6mm ACP sheets are capable of handling almost the same amount of wind load.
