Knowing all the pros and cons of materials helps us to make a better choice for our interior decorations. Let’s have a look at the pros and cons of the more used, Tiles and the one that is catching on, Aluminium Composite Panels.
Tiles can be of various types like ceramics, porcelain, marble etc. However, talking about the most commonly used tiles here are some of the advantages and disadvantages.
WATER RESISTANCE
Glazed Tiles are made up of protective layers that make it water resistant. These tiles are ideal for places with high humidity conditions as the protective layer of the tiles make it impermeable to water and any stains.
DURABLE
Ceramic tiles last as long as 10 – 20 years or even longer, if installed and maintained properly. These tiles are so tough that it’s difficult to crack. However, in case of any cracks due to heavy impact, it is easily replaceable.
INSTALLATION PROCESS
Installing tiles is quite a challenging process and time consuming as well. Before installing a tile one has to ensure that the wall treatments are done properly. The surface on which the tiles will be applied has to be clean, flat and structurally sound. It is time consuming as a lot of pre and post processing needs to be done before laying a tile like applying mortar or other adhesives while laying the tile, allowing the adhesive to dry for 2 or 3 days, applying cement grout at the joints etc.
TOO PERMANENT
Tiles are hard and are prone to cracking. Replacing a tile needs a major renovation to be done as it becomes a permanent setup over time. If in case any tile gets cracked and needs replacement, it becomes difficult to replace the damaged tile without harming the adjacent one.
EASY INSTALLATION
Unlike tiles, ACPs are flexible materials and can be bent easily without causing any cracks or damages to the panel. ACPs are also lightweight and strong and sturdy. They are easier to install too.
SEAMLESS
Seamless finish can be achieved with ACPs on false ceilings, wall panels etc. With an ACP panel one can go up to 16ft in length without joins. Less joins can be an aesthetic requirement. Also in hospital interiors joins are minimized so as to prevent bacteria from breeding. Aludecor ACPs come with unmatched flatness and zero undulation that gives an aesthetically pleasing look to the interiors.
DURABLE
Aluminium Composite Panels in the interiors are almost maintenance free. They are readily available in a variety of shades and come as finished products. No painting or special treatment is required either at the time of installation or periodically.
ACPs are more prone to dents and scratches.
