Interior design is a science in the form of art. It has its elements and principles. The texture is one of the seven elements of interior design. The others are Space, Line, Form, Light, Colour, and Pattern.
The texture is the surface quality of the material. It is associated with the look or feel of an object, such as silky, smooth, rough, furry, soft, shiny etc. In interior design the perception of texture is influenced by its adjacent surfaces, viewing distance and light. When an object feels as it appears, it is called real or actual texture. When a texture is created on something that is different from what it looks like, it is called visual or implied texture.
Textures play an interesting role in transforming a space. The textures of furniture and textiles make a room feel complete and cosy. For example, pillow covers, curtain drapes, couches, wallpapers etc. It creates desirable spaces to occupy.
The key objective of interior designing is to craft a balance as per the preferences of the person who is going to occupy the room. For instance, the glossy materials with a minimum textured surface are best suited for those who prefer modern interior with sleek and simple designing style.
