Case Study: M/S Marina Silk, Salem

“We shape our buildings; thereafter, they shape us.” – Winston Churchill

Project: M/S Marina Silk, commercial structure in Salem

Requirement from the Expert:

An architect is an expert mix of design and technicalities who oversees the planning, design, and construction of a structure. They provide services connected with forms and the spaces inside the site around the buildings that have as their primary goal human occupancy or usage. Architects are those experts who have a broad understanding of facade design, having completed various projects.

When Aludecor receives a design requirement from such architects, it is a matter of pride and a work of great responsibility.

The Challenge:

  • The building’s steep height posed a design and construction difficulty.
  • Implementing a one-of-a-kind design is like doing major surgery. You might have the finest tools, expertise, and facilities in the world, but if you don’t have the proper support staff to put them to use, they’ll be useless.
  • To survive an extended period, tall structures require sustainable and adaptable facades.
  • The design had to be one-of-a-kind compared to the other buildings in the neighbourhood.
  • In India, the actual implementation of the concept into reality is ignored, resulting in disappointment for the architect. Hence matching up to his expectation was quite a task.
  • Each project has its facade, which necessitates its planning.
  • When it comes to planning, there are no hard and fast rules. Hence designing the style or pattern was tricky.

The Design & Solution:

M/S Marina Silk is a commercial structure in Salem. While the architect wanted to create a splendid complex, the fabricator wanted to design a low-maintenance modern facility and would have a stylish appearance. Aludecor DA Team met both the requirements.

The use of ACP and glass gave the building its distinct personality in an otherwise corporate environment. The design idea was that it should appear to be an attractive structure, different from others; hence Aludecor Team gave a distinctive design.

The structure stood at the height of 50 feet. Aludecor regular series was used to create attractive aesthetics during the day and a gleaming appearance at night. In the building, the ACP sheets were utilized around 6000 square feet.

Technical Mechanism:

Aludecor DA Team suggested the Rout & Return method for the real-life installation of ACP in the complex with a 10 mm groove filled with silicone. Aluminium profile 25 X 50 mm used in framing with aluminium cleats and L angles.

The Result:

The structure is a beautiful example of a commercial establishment that reflects gorgeousness with its varied hues.
