A Hope for a New Tomorrow!

A heart full of love

A home full of hopes

Love begins at home

The Calcutta Orphanage shelters those dreaming of having a family, a brighter future, and beautiful life.

Posited in one of the nostalgic lanes of North Kolkata, Calcutta Orphanage is the epitome of Bangali sentiment from the bygone era. It is one of the oldest homes and probably the first of Colonial Calcutta. Founded on 20th January 1892 by late Rev Bhai Prankrishna Dutta, a Nababidhan Brahmosamaj, Calcutta Orphanage missionary started its journey with just three orphans in a modest leased home at 82/1, Upper Circular Road (Presently Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road) Kolkata.

Calcutta Orphanage, Bengal’s first home for orphans and impoverished children, celebrated its 129th anniversary this year! However, the acceptance of this home was at stake in yesteryears. It has weathered all the tests of time before getting people’s unwavering support from all walks of life.

The Calcutta Orphanage shelters the vulnerable childhood and helps them walk in the respectable stream of society. It fulfils their dreams of a brighter future and a beautiful life! The Orphanage provides a safe and secure environment to neglected children. They strive to create a loving, family atmosphere dedicated to helping the children build character and develop academically. The orphanage looks after and educates 200 boys and girls, providing them with food, clothing, education, medical care, cultural and recreational opportunities, and vocational training, such as Computer courses, bookbinding, tailoring, and embroidery more. The boys and girls live, study and train separately in the orphanage. The boys and the girls reside in separate blocks or buildings meant for them.

‘A small gesture can make a big difference!’ The Calcutta Orphanage resonates with the idea of this famous saying. The kids residing there have got a close-knit family while cultivating high standards of morale and discipline. They also have adjusted well to their education and schooling. From scribbling down an alphabet to writing the story of life, they are growing up, overcoming all the challenges. There’s a sense of freedom and positivity in the Orphanage. The children there play, they run, they fall, but they get up with their heads held high. Calcutta Orphanage has given them the freedom to explore their dreams besides nurturing their talent.

Aludecor is delighted to be a proud part of this noble initiative of Calcutta Orphanage in helping the little children grow into self-made human beings, walking the mainstream of society with pride and honour!
